Summary:

My thoughts:

The whole concept of Red bloods and Silver bloods is enough to draw anybody in, to be honest. Why wouldn't it be? In this dystopian world, the Silvers have all the power and are treated like Gods since they do possess special powers and abilities whereas the Reds are ordinary folks making up the working class and are treated like slaves.

I'm pretty sure the author did some kind of research on blood and saw the words 'bone marrow' and thought she could just interchange some letters and voila, we have the name of our protagonist. Mare Barrow. Am i the only one who saw through this silly little thing? I hope not. But i have to give it to her; she was a kick-butt character and definitely one of few in Young Adult novels who stayed focused throughout and kept her head in the game. She hated the Silvers with every bone in her body (get it? =P) and wasn't afraid to hide it.

There's a prominent love triangle in this which I thought was executed quite properly. Who is it gonna be? CAL OR MAVEN? The struggle was real.

But that plot twist though. 

I did NOT see that coming and that frustrated me because on looking back and thinking about it, it was kind of there. The author did a very good job at leaving tiny little hints but never gave anything away. So,

BUT

I did have problems with this book. Even though it had a cool concept, it lacked world development and the author seemed to try too hard to make it like other YA epics like the Hunger Games trilogy. This book was literally Selection meets Mockingjay and the Mare was supposed to be their leader or face of the campaign or whatever. *cough Katniss cough* She even got a name similar to 'girl on fire' which was 'little lightning girl'. I mean, COME ON!!! So yeah. That. 

But I will be continuing on with the series and can't wait for the next book to release and I'm hoping it gets much better. 

It's gotten a lot of hype and I can't justify if it deserves it or not. For the most part, it does because while reading i enjoyed myself. =)
